Campus LifeThe students of IIT Gandhinagar are accommodated in hostels present in the campus. Facilities for students such as playgrounds and infrastructure for other recreational activities are available.
The students at IITGN are highly active and involved in many extracurricular activities. It is the only IIT to have organized a cultural festival in the very first year of its inception.
The institute has an elected student body called the Students' Gymkhana Council which manages all extra-curricular activities involving the students in the institute. There are several Secretaries who are in-charge of a specific category of activities.
Blithchron, the cultural festival of IIT Gandhinagar, has been a huge success ever since its inception in 2009. The growth that this festival has witnessed is tremendous, from a mere footfall of 1500+ in the first year to 8000+ in the second year. The third year was even grander. Also, by organising a technical summit called Amalthea, the students have set up a concrete foundation for a strong technical culture.
Sport is also an integral part of life at IIT GN. Football enthusiasts have come together under the ambit of LFP (League of Football Players) and have organised a Barclays Premier League style IITian Football League with provisions for team formation through bidding, player transfer, etc. Several inter-department sports competitions have also been organised. IIT GN have grown to medal-winning standards at the Inter-IIT sports meet as well.
The students also are responsible for 'Palantir', a magazine that keeps everyone updated about the happenings in the campus and also acts as a forum for voicing student concerns. The institute has also initiated a program where students can get themselves enrolled in part-time jobs and get paid. The jobs enable the students to get involved in functioning of the institute.
